District Consent Forms

As we are approaching our trip, there are a few more things to get into place. This morning we held a brief D.C. meeting for the students where they received a District Consent form that needs to be signed by both a guardian and student ASAP. Students can either leave the form in my mailbox or bring the form directly.

Students also chose one of their meals which is pre-ordered so it's ready upon our arrival. If your son or daughter missed the meeting this morning, they will need to see me to make that food selection.

Students also learned about the wreath laying ceremony that takes place at the Tomb of the Unkowns. If your son or daughter would like to participate in this great honor, they will be signing up outside of my classroom. 2 boys and 2 girls will be drawn at random from that list later this month.

If you have not filled out the medical form Brightspark mailed home a couple weeks ago, please do so and return to me at school as soon as possible. The sooner we have all forms in order, the better. Thank you kindly.

Roommate Sign Up

Welcome back to school! As part of preparation for our trip, traveling students need to sign up for a hotel room. The rooms sleep 4 same-gender students. Please sign up outside my room by Friday, Sept. 9. I will try to accomodate your first choice, but adjustments may need to be made. Please see me if you have any questions. Thank you!

Wait List

Registration for the Washington, D.C. trip closed on June 1st. At this point in time, there is a wait list to go on the trip! Brightspark Travel is working hard at obtaining more tickets for things such as air space, shows, and events to open up the wait list, but remember this is not a guarantee. As of this morning (6/7), there are 3 students on the wait list. Brightspark will be contacting those families so you know what to expect. Any cancellations of the trip will also allow students from the wait list to attend.

I do not have access to my school voice mail over the summer, so the best way to contact me is through email (jmaass@ccsd66.org). You can also contact Brightspark at 847-509-0088. Roommates will be selected upon our return next school year, and the final information meeting information will be mailed out with your final bill. Until then, enjoy summer! Scholarships & Registration Deadline

Brightspark has finished putting together a needs-based scholarship program for our students. This is a great opportunity for families! They will be mailing out the details to all Lakeview families very shortly; please keep an eye on your mail for information from Brightspark.

With the new scholarship information, they have extended the registration deadline to June 1 so famlies have time to look through the scholarship infomation. Please note that your first payment will be due to Brightspark upon registering. All scholarship applications should go directly to Brightspark.

Because of the extended registration deadline, we will be signing up for roommates NEXT FALL. Students do not need to decide on roommates until shortly after we return to school. This will allow for flexibility as students continue to sign up. Have a wonderful week!

Brightspark Travel has extended the registration deadline for Washington, D.C.! They will accept registration through May 2 (as opposed to the original April 12 deadline)! Also, please look in the mail for news from Brightspark about a new travel scholarship available to our students this year.

As Educational Tours transitions to their new moniker, Brightspark Travel, they are working on their online registration site. You can either select "Go" from the Educational Tours link below the "Pardon our dust" message, or you can register online directly through www.educationaltours.com. D.C. 2011 Info Meeting

Attention Current 7th Graders! The Washington, D.C. trip for 2011 is in the works! We will once again travel again Educational Tours; however they have changed their name to Brightspark Travel! Brightspark will be sending information to your home address in the next week or so. There will be an informational meeting at Lakeview on March 16 at 6 p.m. in the old gym. At this time you will be able to get an overview of the trip, as well as ask questions. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have.

We're Ready

The students have everything they need for their departure on Saturday! Please have your son or daughter to school no later than 5:45 Saturday morning. We will return around 10 p.m. on Monday. Remember, please don't park in the bus lanes so that the coach buses have room to get through. We're ready and looking forward to another great trip!

Welcome back 8th graders and parents! Our Washington, D.C. trip is less than 2 months away! I'm thrilled for another fantastic trip! We will be having a final information meeting on Thursday, Sept. 16 at 6:30 p.m. At this time, we will go over the itinerary, ideas of what to pack, etc., as well as answer any questions. Rooms Are Set Up

Help Me Travel

As discussed in the information meeting, students have the opportunity to have friends and family contribute to their experience in Washington, D.C. After registering for the trip (www.educationaltours.com), students will receive a passenger ID number and then have access to Educational Tour's "Help Me Travel" link. All you will need to do is click on that link and follow the instructions.

This feature will allow you to send an email to family and friends asking for a donation on behalf of the student, helping them take this once-in-a-lifetime tour of the Nation's Capital! Be sure to enlist the help of your student to make this personal and why it's important to them. Donations start as low as $5.00 and up to any amount someone would like to donate.

March 18 Meeting

Student-Parent Meeting

I'm so excited to see that we already have 50 students registered for the Washington, D.C. trip! We will need to continue filling spaces so that we have enough students to create a 2nd bus and that there is not a wait list. Please remember that registration is extended beyone our information meeting next Thursday, March 18. You can continue to register throughout the month of March.

If you are registered for the trip, it is mandatory that your child and a guardian attend the information meeting on March 18. If you're looking for more information about D.C. before signing up, this is a good meeting for you to attend. We will have our representative from Educational Tours at the meeting on March 18. We will cover the requirements for attending the trip and frequently asked questions. You can expect the meeting to last approximately one hour, and to respect everyone's time, we will beging promptly at 6, so please be seated with your child and ready to go at that time.

The registration deadlines has been extened. On the information you received from Educational Tours it indicates that students should be signed up by March 9, which is before our information meeting at Lakeview. I apologize, as this is an error. Students may still register AFTER the March 9 deadline indicated on the letter. I am sorry for any confusion this may have caused. Open Registration

I'm excited to announce that our 2010 trip to D.C. has officially been opened for registration! ET has been working hard to get our trip rolling, and has recently mailed letters home to the parents of all current 7th graders. Registration is on a first come, first serve basis. In years past, we have had to go to a "waiting list" due to the high number of student interest.

Washington, D.C. 2010

Happy new year! As we look at the new year, I am working with Educational Tours for our 39th annual 8th Grade D.C. Trip! The trip will take place Columbus Day Weekend, Oct. 9-11, 2010. This year's 7th graders are invited to take part in this Lakeview tradition. At this time, there is no further information as we are working hard to confirm and finalize more details to give you a more complete picture of the trip in the near future.

There will be an informational meeting for parents and students on Thursday, March 18 at 6 p.m. Prior to the informational meeting, Educational Tours will be mailing home information regarding the trip, payment plans, registration information, and the final cost. Thursday Meeting

Our final D.C. meeting will be this Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Lakeview! It is important for each student attending the trip and at least one parent or guardian to attend this meeting! We will be going over the itinerary, final details, and any questions you may have. The meeting should last between 30 and 45 minutes, depending how many questions there are. See you tomorrow!

Roommates

As we are approaching the end of the year, students will need to sign up for their hotel roommates. We spend very little time in the hotel rooms. We will be having a brief meeting tomorrow morning before school to layout the guidelines for hotel roommates. Washington, D.C. Informational Meeting

7th Grade Students and Parents-
Hopefully by now you have received your information packet from Educational Tours regarding the Washington, D.C. trip next October! I am very excited for another fun-filled weekend in our capital with Lakeview students! If you did not receive a packet, you can come see me, or the flyer station in the office, to get a packet. There will be an informational meeting on Wednesday, March 18 at 6 p.m. in the old gym. We will give a general overview on what to expect on the trip as well as a time for questions and answers.

The trip is filled on a first come, first serve basis. The last two trips have had a wait list until there were enough students to open up a second tour bus. Opening the second group is dependent on the number of students to sign up. The wait list begins with the 51st student. Students have already begun to register. We will explain the wait list in more detail on Wednesday.
